Fashion Dare: A Nautical Nod
July is the perfect time to salute the inner sea captain in all of us.

Derek Lam Resort 2010 Collection
The nautical theme is not only on trend this season, but it actually fits better into the classics category. Various re-inventions of it crop up as trends once in a while, but the crisp whites, bright reds, navy blues, bold stripes, gold details, corded accents and sea inspired whimsy are never really “out of style”.

The nautical theme also translates globally reaching across international waters where different fashion capitols put their own twist on sailor savvy styles.

Look for reasonably priced sea worthy pieces like these scallop silver seashell earrings, a boldly striped cable knit zip hoody, a playful striped tunic with rope belt, canvas boardwalk tote bag and peep toe wedges.

Forever 21 Earrings $2.80, Old Navy Hoody $29.50, Forever 21 Tunic $17.80, J Crew Tote $39.50 and Charlotte Ronson Wedges $145 from Piperlime
So stretch your sea legs a little this summer even on dry land and add a splash of nautical flair to your wardrobe… I dare you.

I’ve never been a big fan of the nautical look but I changed my mind recently thanks to a little sailor dress I got! Love it so much: http://wendybrandes.com/blog/2009/07/paris-day-3-bastille-day-with-tom/

Love the Russian and Australian Vogue pages!!! My usual nod to nautical has been stripes, but what I like here is all the button details…
