Fashion Dare: Pajama Possibilities

vintage-pajamas

At first, the idea of pajamas masquerading as ready to wear fashion seems a little nuts, but if lingerie can be worn out on any girls night and cozy flannel pants are donned off-campus by co-eds everywhere, why can’t classic pajamas enjoy their time to walk in the sun?

Dolce & Gabbana

The only way to see if this Dolce & Gabbana approved trend will actually work is to go ahead and get comfortable with it. Decking yourself out in head to toe sleepwear, may work for Hugh Hefner, but most of us will need to be a little more selective in choosing intimate pieces to mix in with our existing wardrobe.

Five Ways to Experiment with Pajamas

Sleep Shirts - Style as you would a great blouse and pair with your favorite jeans.

Delicate Robes - Secure and wear like a wrap dress or open like a cardigan.

Flannel Tops - Wear like a plaid shirt and layer over tees or under jackets.

Silk Bottoms - Add heels and structured top or Recycle into Harem Pants

Bed Jackets - Delicate vintage substitute for modern fashion capelet.

Play around a little, after all that’s what trends are for. You might end up with some edgy new fashion statements or possibly just a chic little ensemble for inside the house, but let those pajamas have a chance at style, I DARE YOU

Great post! I used to wear my plaid pj tops out all the time when I was a student!

Does wearing your PJ’s to drop off yr kids at school count?

  3. Michelle Says:

Ooh, I actually really like some of these! When I saw the title, it honestly made me cringe a bit, but I really like the robe and bedjacket ideas. So delicate & a slightly offbeat spin on the whole “underwear as outerwear” thing.

Haha, these are excellent tips! Although, I think I’d have to replace my current turtle and monkey pajamas before rocking some of these trends..

Excellent post. I’ve seen some pretty fantastic sleepwear especially the recent Kate Moss collection for Topshop. And when you consider items like those which are somewhat pricey, you almost need to work them into your everyday wardrobe in order to justify the price tag.

I love PJs to death… my staple everyday wardrobe because I work from home. But wearing them outside the house have never crossed my mind until you posted this. I can do with the flannel top paired with jeans or the silk bottoms paired with a knitted top.

    Love your blog!

  8. Retro Chick Says:

Well, I tried it with a robe! What do you think?
